I’m not sure why I even went to the football game this week. I honestly have no idea why they even played the game. It literally served no purpose. One commentator had it right when he said on Friday that he couldn’t believe that they were actually charging admission for the game.
The opponent was Sam Houston State University (in Huntsville, for those who don’t know). Apparently Mac put this team on the schedule because Texas College for the Blind already had Texas A&M scheduled this year. The sad thing is that TCB is favored by 6.5.
And speaking of point spreads, the spread for the UT vs. SHSU game were… if you know, please tell me. I checked USA Today, Bodog.com, Sportsbook.com, and a couple other Vegas odds makers, and none of them even bothered to set any odds. Just sad.
I think the most ironic thing about the game was the unsportsmanlike conduct call in the first quarter against the Longhorns. Hell, the fact that SHSU was even on the schedule was unsportsmanlike conduct.
And one final note. The official attendance for the game was 88,956, meaning there were only 466 fewer people than were at the Ohio State game. If true, the 466 who didn’t go must have all had tickets in my section because I had a heck of a lot more elbow room that I did for OSU. Personally, I think the “official attendance” number is worthless.

I felt that the Bearkats deserved something for their efforts besides the hundreds of thousands of dollars from their cut of the game.
While not quite as noteworthy as say achieving ABA accreditation, the fact that they showed up, played four full quarters of football, came back on the field after being down by 49 points at the half, and survived (meaning no fatalities), deserves some kind of award. Since this accomplishment is not quite worth of a prestigious Ex.Coll. Thumbs Up Award ®, I am now awarding the first ever Ex.Coll. Salute® to the Sam Houston State Bearkats!
